Baton Rouge is the capital of the U.S. state of Louisiana. Located on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River, it is the parish seat of East Baton Rouge Parish, the most populous parish in Louisiana. Baton Rouge is located on the banks of the Mississippi River in southeastern Louisiana. It lies on a low elevation of 56 to a little over 62 feet above sea level.
As of the census of 2010, 229,553 people, and per the 2010 census, 88,973 households, and 52,672 families resided in the city.
